If you regularly work in a FOD area, look for a waste container labeled “FOD”, “FOD Can”, or similar. It will probably resemble a trash can or box, and should have a closed lid. Place any FOD that you find in this container (unless your want to preserve it for an investigation). At some later point, either you or janitorial services will transport the FOD Can out of the FOD area for permanent disposal.
Dispose of FOD in a designated FOD can, instead of a random or improvised trash can, for two reasons. First, a proper FOD Can has an attached lid that prevents the FOD inside from migrating back into the environment. Second, a proper FOD Can is OSHA-certified for disposal of oily waste, such as greasy hardware.
