Infographic: Designating FOD Areas in Manufacturing

FOD Areas Infographic

Any location where products are manufactured, inspected, tested, repaired, warehoused, shipped or received might be designated as an area that you must keep free of foreign object debris (FOD). Many facilities use a standard three-layered system for designating a specific work or storage area as one where FOD is of concern.

  • Post signs, banners, decals, barriers, floor markings, tape or similar media at the entrance to a FOD area.
  • Require that personnel complete a training course before they are allowed unescorted access into the area.
  • Develop procedures to inventory and track parts, tools, consumables, debris and personal items in the area.
