FOD Incidents

A FOD Incident occurs when you encounter Foreign Object Debris or Foreign Object Damage.

There are three types of FOD incident:

1. When an item goes missing or is discovered in the wrong location

2. When that item causes Foreign Object Damage

3. When conditions exist – such as a violation of FOD control procedures or an unauthorized visitor entering an FOD area – that might result in either of the above.

Your facility should instruct you as to which kind of FOD incident requires which kind of response, such as documentation or a work stoppage. The following advice, then, is of a general nature. When in doubt, stop and report.

Incident Response
Ask your supervisor for clarification about FOD incident reporting requirements in your facility.
