About the Role
The F.O.D. Control Corporation is looking for a skilled Industrial Sewing Machine Operator to join our production team. You’ll be working with heavy-gauge materials — leather, industrial plastics, and other heavy-duty fabrics — to produce the sweeping mats, protective covers, and textile components that are integral to our FOD prevention equipment.
Our products are used on airport runways, military airfields, and racetracks worldwide. The materials you sew go through extreme conditions — dragged across tarmac, exposed to jet blast, weather, and constant friction. Precision and durability in every stitch matter here.
What You’ll Do
- Operate industrial sewing machines to assemble heavy-gauge components from leather, plastics, and heavy-duty materials
- Read and follow patterns, work orders, and assembly specifications
- Cut, measure, and prepare materials for sewing operations
- Inspect finished assemblies for stitch quality, alignment, and structural integrity
- Perform routine care and preventive maintenance on sewing machines — threading, tension adjustment, needle changes, oiling, and basic troubleshooting
- Comfortably move and position assemblies weighing 25–35 lbs throughout the production process
- Maintain an organized and clean work station
- Collaborate with the production team to meet build schedules and quality standards
What We’re Looking For
- 2+ years of experience operating industrial sewing machines
- Proven ability to work with heavy-gauge materials — leather, vinyl, heavy plastics, canvas, ballistic nylon, or similar
- Knowledge of machine care and routine maintenance — threading, tension calibration, bobbin replacement, oiling, and minor adjustments
- Ability to read patterns, measurements, and work instructions accurately
- Strong attention to detail — consistent stitch quality across production runs
- Physically able to lift and maneuver assemblies weighing 25–35 lbs
- Reliable, punctual, and comfortable working independently
- High school diploma or GED required
Bonus Points
- Experience with walking-foot or compound-feed industrial machines (common for heavy materials)
- Background in automotive upholstery, marine canvas, military gear, or industrial textile production
- Experience with edge binding, bar tacking, or multi-needle machines
- Familiarity with material handling equipment or production line workflows
What We Offer
- Competitive hourly wage based on experience
- Paid time off and holidays
- Meaningful work — the components you build protect critical infrastructure worldwide
- A tight-knit, performance-driven team where quality craftsmanship is valued
Details
- Schedule: Full time — 40 hrs./week, Monday–Friday
- Location: Garland, TX (On-Site)
- Authorization: Must be authorized to work in the United States
