"This tip comes from several sources, and we've been getting some very positive and pleased feedback. F.O.D. monitors have obtained, through local purchase, magnetic sweeping bars for installation on flight line vehicles. The most modern units are compact and versatile enough to be used nearly anywhere and are inexpensive, about $400 for a 72" truck-mounted model. Maintenance on the bars is nearly non-existent. At Norton AFB, the bars are mounted on flight line vehicles and are merely brushed off at the end of each shift a one minute task.

The bars can be installed in a manner which allows quick removal for use on other vehicles. The second model is a hand-operated unit which is attached to a wheel-set and is ideal for use in shop areas and tight spots around aircraft. The effectiveness of F.O.D. walks on your base can be markedly improved by allowing several individuals to use these during the walk. "
